ImportPreviousData
TaskEstimation does not currently have an import functionality. Because very few people have very large data sets, it was not considered to be a priority. However, the interface was created to input data rapidly. The best way to think about it is a spreadsheet without the hassle.Set-up
Upon login, you will be taken to the task list interface. From anywhere else, a link labeled Back to task list is available in the top left corner.
The task list is the favored interface to import data. The default listing displays the active tasks: those not completed. Any task created will have active as the default tag. To speed up import, simply change the With filter to appropriate tags for the data you wish to import and apply them. All tasks created will contain those tags. For more information about tags, see Choosing Appropriate Tags.
Procedure
To reduce the amount of navigation required and speed up input, similar tasks are serialized. First the tasks will be created, then values will be entered.
- Place your cursor in the input box below the list. The
icon is displayed next to it.
- Type the task name and press enter. The task will be added to the list with a green highlight. The highlight fades once the server confirmed saving. Repeat until all tasks are entered.
- Place the cursor in the text field at the end of the table heading row. Type the metric names you wish to use and press enter for each of them. New columns will be added to the table.
- Click on a cell to edit it. Enter the values for all tasks.
- Adjust the tags for the tags as required. The tag field is displayed below the task name and can be edited as other values.
When a cell is selected, arrow keys can be used to navigate the grid. Here are a few shortcuts:
- Enter will enter edit mode or leave it to save.
- Escape when in edit mode will cancel the change
- Typing on a selected cell will edit it
