ProduceEstimate
Your ability to produce an estimate will depend largely on the type of data you have available. Multiple techniques are available, and it's possible to use most of them using TaskEstimation. This documentation will explain a few common cases and walk through the interface. The estimation is a simple but powerful tool allowing for a lot of creativity. Feel free to go beyond these steps.
The primary use is to produce time estimates, however, one could easily run statistics on fault injection to produce quality assessment. Only basic, general purpose, mathematical tools are provided. Use your imagination.
Monogamy does not apply to software. Use multiple methods when possible and compare their results. If they are different, understand why they are. You may have made mistakes along the way. Using multiple methods is a good way yo verify yourself.
Also consider asking a collegue to perform an estimate (as an exchange of services perhaps). You will very likely come up with different values as you will use different input, but the order of magnitude (or ballpark) should be the same.
- Produce a first estimate without historical data
- Produce an estimate with little historical data (1-4 entries)
- Produce an estimate using linear regression (minimum of 3 entries required, more is better)
