Task List

The task list is used to access the various estimates and task details. The current list displays all completed tasks and their metrics.

  • The active tag is used for tags in progress. Filtering out all tags without the active tag lists all completed tasks.
  • The metrics used are not imposed by TaskEstimation. In this example, FP was used as the FunctionPoints count and Actual as the total amount of time spent on the task.
  • Multiple tags are used on each task to allow multiple filtering methods.
  • All values are editable in place.

Task List (New Task)

New tasks can be created from the task list interface. By default, the task will contain the tags specified in the With filter, but can be changed at any time.

Upon creation, the task will be highlighted in green. As soon as the server confirmed creation and storage, the highlight will fade. All values on the task are set to 0. These can be filled in place, or be entered from the estimation interface, providing more tools to help calculate the results.

Choosing Appropriate Tags explains the type of tags that can be used to help filtering of data.

Task Breakdown

Task breakdown can be made using either the subtask editor or the spacial editor. This screenshot presents the spacial editor with a top level view of the task to be broken down. The spacial editor allows to lay out multiple visual components to help in the analysis of the task. Different pages can be used to expose the various levels of details that may be required. Values like function point counts can be placed on each item when appropriate.

The screenshots presents the following components:

  • Toolbar at the top-left
  • Taskbar at the bottom-left
  • Navigation bar at the bottom-right
  • A list widget used to list basic concepts
  • A sequence diagram widget used to show interactions

Analyze and Measure Task proposes step by step instructions on how to use this interface.

Estimation Interface

The estimation interface can be used to perform various types of estimation. In this case, because sufficient amounts of data were available, linear regression was used.

Produce Regression Estimate explains the steps to be executed to obtain these results. Other techniques are also available.
